Safer And More Fulfilling Encounters Through Proper Public Signage

DOT launches the Public Romance Signage Program to guide healthy, fulfilling interactions.

In a city as densely populated as New York, spontaneous romantic encounters are as inevitable as gridlock. The Public Romance Signage Program introduces signage that doesn’t just guide traffic, but helps guide love, compassion, and emotional well‑being.

New Signs for a New Era of Urban Romance: “Flirt Responsibly”, “Consent Required”, “Cuddle Corners”, and “Meet‑Cute Zones” will provide clear cues and boundaries for safe, fulfilling interactions.

Each sign includes QR codes linking to tutorials on respectful behavior, body language, and appropriate distances for public affection.

Public safety remains a top priority. “Love Marshals” will ensure guidelines are respected and address “affection congestion” by dispersing romantic energy citywide.

DOT invites public feedback via the TenderMap app; early suggestions include “First Date Crosswalks” and “Breakup Benches”. Other cities are watching New York’s model closely.
