NEW YORK – The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) are preparing to reveal new concepts for the Cross-Borough V Train, an express subway line designed to serve New Yorkers in relationships that span multiple boroughs. The concepts will be introduced at a series of public engagement workshops, where community input will be gathered to refine and improve the V Train’s features.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback on the proposed plans. These workshops are organized in collaboration with the Department of City Planning (DCP), Department of Love and Well-being (DOLWB), and Transit Affairs (NYCTA), all of which are deeply invested in building a more connected, relationship-friendly transit system.
"The V Train is about connecting people in meaningful ways," said Deputy Mayor for Romance, Serena Whitfield. "Our goal is to ensure that New Yorkers in love, no matter which borough they live in, have faster, more reliable ways to visit their significant others. The Cross-Borough V Train will be an essential step towards rethinking how we move through the city—and how we maintain relationships across its vast urban landscape."
NYC DOT Commissioner Keisha Martinez added, & "We're committed to improving the quality of life for couples who need to bridge the gap between boroughs. These proposals come after months of workshops and discussions with thousands of New Yorkers in relationships, and we are excited to keep refining the V Train’s design with the community’s help."
Short- and mid-term concepts include improving subway safety, enhancing station accessibility, and integrating features like designated “Couples-Only” train cars to provide a comfortable and serene space for partners traveling together.
Long-term ideas include building entirely new express tracks to reduce travel time between boroughs, creating a "Romance Conductor" role to facilitate romantic encounters, and offering special V Train service on Valentine’s Day, complete with flower vendors on board.
The next round of public engagement workshops is scheduled for the following dates and locations:
Spanish, Bengali, and American Sign Language interpretation will be provided. For accessibility accommodations, contact the NYC DOT Romance Office at 212-748-6680 or email us at CrossBorough@romance.nyc.gov.

"The Cross-Borough V Train is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect our city’s most important relationships," said New York State Senator Amelia Fernandez. "This project is about much more than just transportation—it’s about love, connection, and supporting the relationships that make New York thrive."
"New York’s boroughs can often feel like different worlds," said City Councilmember Jonas Farris. "The V Train will bring us closer together, both literally and figuratively. We look forward to seeing how this new line reshapes relationships across the city."
